One question, if donor centric is important, why charities are not calling regular or cash givers (at least yearly) to say hi and understand their needs/preference and communicate the gratefulness and the changes they made?cnukausnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8239666743088542848.post-85074320766727991002010-09-23T08:39:16.103-05:002010-09-23T08:39:16.103-05:00What a great post! You don't *have* to spend thousands of dollars on a prospect screening to put a system in place that will prioritize donors. I couldn't agree with you more! Particulary in this challenging economy it is easy to forget that not only do we as fundraisers have needs, but that our donors have their own agenda, wishes, dreams...stacie.haugenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17908767641517949001noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8239666743088542848.post-6690548889291884612010-08-19T07:28:23.962-05:002010-08-19T07:28:23.962-05:00What a great post! Donor centered fundraising as a concept has always felt so good, but it has long seemed like we, as fundraisers, were just pretending to be donor centered with our one-way communication. But it's so much more -- as you noted, it's about engagement, communication, questions and, perhaps above all, listening. The best fundraisers I know also happen to be the best listeners. Thank you for bringing an oft-misused term back to its roots!Erica Holthausenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04622846645030953520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8239666743088542848.post-12029878666758350342010-08-13T14:31:39.543-05:002010-08-13T14:31:39.543-05:00Since the American Red Cross initiated their "...Since the American Red Cross initiated their "text to give" campaign in support of Haiti I've been intrigued with the idea and was surprised in how much they raised. For all of us working in philanthropy and development we focus on the relational rather than the transactional. But in organizations such as the one where I work, the transactional connection is an important aspect to fundraising events that, for the most part, raise funds through pledges. I would categorize special events to be transactional fundraising and philanthropy to be relational development. As I consider initiating a "text to give" campaign I see it as a vehicle that could be used in association with special events to increase the number of smaller gifts. I see the special event coordinators as working on this type of transaction and that the major gifts officers focus their efforts on philanthropy and building relationships with those who are deeply committed to the mission.Pattihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16239626637975438163noreply@blogger.com
